Know Your Rights!
“When we become Christians, we work to become broken.” The first time my friend said this to me, I was perplexed. But then I began to search for the truth in this statement, and found that brokenness is evident when we no longer react with all of our pre-Christian flesh patterns when the following rights are challenged:
Your right to possessions.
Your right to a good reputation.
Your right to have acceptance by others.
Your right to be successful.
Your right to have pleasant circumstances.
Your right to presume on the will of God.
Your right to life itself.
Your right to beauty or strength.
Your right to have friends.
Your right to be heard.
Your right to take offense.
Your right to avoid reaping from what you sow.
Your right to be right.
Your right to see results.
Your right to be loved by others.
Your right to…
When we surrender ourselves to Jesus Christ, our rights of the flesh have been surrendered. What we gain are kingdom rights — or legal spiritual rights. Yes, as a citizen of the United States, we have certain rights, which are outlined in the Constitution and called The Bill of Rights. As long as we obey the laws of the land, we are in right-standing with the United States government.
The same thing is true with God! As a believer, we are a citizen of the kingdom of God, and we have a right to everything in the Kingdom. There is a covenant between Jesus and God, signed in Jesus’ blood, which provides these rights for us. If Jesus is our Lord, then we are in right-standing with God — we have the righteousness of God. We have a right to everything God has.
Know your rights as children of God:
The right to be free. (John 8:36)
The right to choose where to spend eternity. (Deuteronomy 30:19)
The right to be healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
The right to prosper. (2 Corinthians 9:8)
The right to never fear again. (Romans 8:15)
The right to have peace. (Psalm 29:11)
The right to use the name of Jesus. (1 John 3:23)
The right to always triumph. (2 Corinthians 2:14)
How much better are these rights?
