Choose What Is Real

Choose What Is Real

In a dream, a close friend and I were at a comforting and quiet retreat. We hadn’t seen each other in a long time, so we were having a joyous time visiting with one another, enjoying the time together, and experiencing wonderful fellowship while doing simple and quiet activities. We spent time praying, and talked of God’s goodness and marveled at His creation in nature.

Halfway through our visit, a famous actress arrived at the retreat with her beautiful wardrobe, dazzling jewels, enticing smile, and charming personality. My friend A beautiful woman drawn to the sparkles of a displaylocked her eyes onto this beautiful actress and became so enamored with her that she began to follow her around like a shadow. The actress showered my friend with attention, letting her try on clothes and jewelry, splurging on the best meals, buying her gifts, and flooding her with attention and the promise of a close friendship with unlimited and extravagant benefits.

I had ceased to exist in my friend’s eyes and was deeply saddened by this. I wanted her to return to me, so we could continue our vacation of close and genuine fellowship in the Lord. A short time later, the actress’s husband and entourage checked into the retreat; and suddenly my friend no longer existed in the actress’s life. The entourage pushed my friend to the side, then prohibited my friend from access to her new best friend.

Interpretation: Everything in a dream is representative of something. In this dream, the actress represented those desirable things that the world offers that the flesh is attracted to and yearns for. Those things try to entice us, shower us with attention, want our loyalty, and pretend to deeply care about us. My friend represents those who become attracted to those worldly things, and are willing to do anything—and give up anything—to have it. But the world and all of its allure and attraction didn’t care about her. It quickly reeled her in with promises and illusions, but just as quickly, the world moved on to the next thing, leaving my friend hurt. Ravaged. Rejected. Tossed aside.

Today I am giving you a choice of two ways. And I ask heaven and earth to be witnesses of your choice. You can choose life or death. The first choice will bring a blessing. The other choice will bring a curse. So choose life!  Deuteronomy 30:19 (ERV)

This dream created a prayer for wisdom: What of the world we looking at that is drawing us in with its allure? Only to know the outcome is that we will be kicked in the stomach and tossed aside. The desire for that worldly want and attachment must be broken, as that attachment belongs only to our King, our God, our Lord. And when we walk away from the pure and unconditional love of God to chase something of the world that is deceptive and counterfeit, He is deeply saddened and wants us to return to Him.
