Delight
Delight. What does this word conjure? Ice cream sundae on a hot summer afternoon? A Friday off from work? Taking a stroll in the park with your dog? An al fresco lunch with two of your best friends? To delight yourself in something means to get pleasure from it and to SHOW that delight.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Why did David write this? As an encouragement to his people to keep their hearts right before the God by delighting in Him. David wanted the people to make the Lord the joy of their spirit and the joy of their lives. When God is at the center of our heart and He promises to give us the desires of our heart, we are rewarded with the very things that please God.
Delighting in God is a privilege, so express that delight of knowing that God is good and His plan for our Spiritual Journey is designed specifically for each of us. There are many ways to express delight. Begin each day delighting in Him in any way you can. Expression is from the heart, but here are 50 unique ideas to begin or find your own way:
Write your own personal psalm to Him.
Dance before Him.
Thank Him for the long list of things He’s done for you.
Memorize a scripture.
Encourage someone.
Sing to Him.
Love those who are unkind to you.
Find a way to serve someone in need in your community.
Read aloud a favorite verse in your Bible.
Sit quietly and listen to Him.
Listen to a teaching today that helps you understand Him more.
Be pleasing with every thought and word.
Tell Him out loud that you love Him.
Believe His promises.
Do something kind for a loved one.
Honor Him with your money and give an extra offering or gift today.
Be purposeful to guard your heart.
Tell someone today about something the Lord has done for you.
Plan a special time today to enjoy God.
Have a continual conversation with God throughout the day.
Reflect on your day with God.
Go on a nature walk and thank Him for everything you see in His creation.
Go to a restaurant and talk to God silently while you enjoy a meal with Him.
Spend your favorite activity alone with God.
Paint, draw, or color your favorite scripture.
Ask Him to show you areas of your heart that needs change.
Begin a journal of thank you letters to God.
Share with Him the deepest secrets in your heart.
Ask God to reveal a beautiful or unique facet of Himself that you don’t know.
Write a letter to God about your hopes, dreams, struggles, ideas, fears, joys, and failures.
Ask God for His guidance in an area where you need wisdom, discernment, compassion, or revelation.
Write God a thank you note for someone in your life—and mail it to them.
List all the characteristics of God and thank Him for placing those in you.
Take one Bible chapter and personalize it with your name.
Find a promise in the Bible and thank Him for that promise for your life.
Ask God to reveal a subject to you, then look up every scripture on that subject.
Write a poem or paint a picture about God’s heart.
List ten ways God has been faithful to you in your life.
Secretly do something kind for someone today.
Surprise someone with a gift with a note telling them God loves them.
Pray for your church, pastor, bible study group, or spiritual helpers today.
Plan a bible study for yourself or a neighborhood group.
Be hospitable and invite friends or neighbors to your home.
Forgive anyone you hold something against and place them in God’s hands.
Write Jesus a love letter and share it with a friend.
Give away a bible to someone who doesn’t have one.
Plan an anniversary dinner to celebrate the day you made Him the Lord of your life.
Turn on music and praise Him.
When someone asks you to pray for them, do it immediately and let them hear it.
Whatever your spiritual gift from God, ask Him for a new way to use it today.
