Flesh or Spirit
A question we should ask ourselves every day is: “Am I living in the flesh, or am I living in the Spirit?” Chinese church leader and Christian teacher Watchman Nee explained it this way: the flesh is linked with Adam; the Spirit is linked with Christ.
To live in the flesh is to do something “out from” myself as in Adam. It is to derive strength from the old natural source of life that we inherited from him, so that we enjoy in experience all Adam’s very complete provision for sinning which all of us have found so effective.
The same is true for what is in Christ. To enjoy in experience what is true of me as in Him, we must learn what it is to walk in the Spirit. Living in the Spirit means that we trust the Holy Spirit to do in us that we cannot do ourselves. This life is completely different from the life we would naturally live of ourselves.
