Watch Your Step
A good friend of mine phoned me last week. She had stepped outside onto her patio and there was a snake. She had to watch her step, as suddenly seeing this amphibian made her rather uncomfortable. A few days after her call, I was pulling into the garage and smacked the side mirror of the car on the garage door frame. What was I doing? I had one eye on an area where I had just planted some flowers and it looked like they needed water. The other eye was on a package that I had been waiting for was sitting at my front door. My mind, nor my eyes, were on the path ahead, but on what was going on around me.
The Spiritual Journey is full of distractions. A determined, single-minded focus is required for this journey, and this experience I had in the physical realm is reflecting what is happening with my walk in the spiritual realm: distractions. Lesson: Pay attention! Carefully watch each step! Stop gawking around!
“Head up the mountain and listen, for there are many things that are to be revealed. The road is steep, but it has been traveled before. Hush and stillness fill the air during ascension. Notice the fragrance. Sit for a while and gaze upon the distant hills and valleys below. There is a haze and darkness that fills the land. Slumber and laziness have filled the heads of many below.
Continue the journey and carefully watch each step because the path will soon become narrow and rocky. Soon there will be a fork in the road. Many footprints have led to the left for it is the easier path to walk.
But when the journey path veers to the right side, it is designed especially for the sojourner. There will be subtle things that will help in the realization that this is the correct path to take. As evening approaches, the light will change. Rest now for the journey is long and will continue in the morning.”
